Destruct-O-Tron is finally making some deals
with his agent.
Lots of stuff to tell you about today! First up, I'd like to direct you to the
AudioShocker Spreadshirt store. We have
Destruct-O-Tron,
Mind's Eye, and
Mulldusa shirts for super-low prices... and Mulldusa's even
on sale at $10.40 for the next few weeks! Get him while he's cheap!!!
Next up, I guested on my favorite comic book podcast last night, joining Dan Greenwald to discuss digital comics and more on
Comic Book Pitt #75. Give it a listen!
And, finally, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that today is the birthday or the single greatest character of the past 30 years... ALF! That's right, the Melmacian turns a whopping 255 years old day. I recommend that you celebrate by streaming
ALF for free on YouTube -- the first three seasons (
1,
2,
3) are available from
LionsgateTV.
Destruct-O-Tron is trying to talk to his agent in a
house full of distractions.
Thx to my bud,
Brian John Mitchell, I discovered the
Comic Related Webcomics Update feature. I'll be submitting Super Haters to CR every time a new strip goes live.
Yesterday's Webcomics Update was my first!
RALF continues to be a
pain in the ass.
There's a new site called
Your Webcomics and it's driven by user content. It's a great idea for a webcomics community blog, and I'm happy to say that I shared
Super Haters on there yesterday. Check it out!
Destruct-O-Tron fought writer's block... and
he won!
DAAAAAAMN! This one was really tough for me. I've been working on the idea for this strip for a while, and it wasn't until this morning that I came up with a punchline I liked. But... it wasn't over yet. I still had to rework the wording of the punchline to my liking. I tried just about every iteration you could possibly imagine until I found something that I thought 1) sounded good and 2) looked good.
Sometimes I wonder if I care too much about #2 up there... ya know, how the words appear. But I hate having the characters say something that looks visually unappealing! Anyway, I think the final panel looks and reads good here, and I hope you dig it too!
Destruct-O-Tron has refused to listen to
everybody's negativity.
Justique and I spoke about our experience at this year's Pittsburgh Indy Comics Expo on
Sequential Underground #27. Give it a listen!
Speaking of which, here's a pic of Justique and I at PIX:

Dave Wachter... who just celebrated his bday yesterday. Happy bday, Dave!)
Destruct-O-Tron's
struggling to write a sequel to his first comic book.
While Destruct-O-Tron meets with Ross to
get advice on writing a sequel, Mind's Eye is stuck with RALF.
Destruct-O-Tron has
writer's block.
My NYCC recap podcast will be live soon. I'll post the link when it's up. EDIT: Here it is!
AudioShocker Podcast #200!!!
Mind's Eye thinks Destruct-O-Tron should
give up making his own comics.
NYCC 2011 was awesome! You can read my thoughts about it
here.
Destruct-O-Tron's
having problems with his comic book.
I'm at
New York Comic Con this weekend! Come hang out with me. Table D15 in Artist Alley.
Things
aren't going so well with Destruct-O-Tron's comic.
Destruct-O-Tron just confessed to RALF that
he's been lying about the sales of Eternity Glove.
Sooooooooo... I threw my back out last night. I'm supposed to be on my way to the airport right now, but I can't even sit in a chair without excruciating pain. That's why I moved my flight to tomorrow because I'M GOING TO NYCC AND I CAN'T BE STOPPED!!!
Destruct-O-Tron has a secret about his
weekend at PIX!
Sorry today's comic is so late! I'm getting ready for the
New York Comic Con. I leave Pittsburgh tomorrow and there's still a ton to do. AHHHH!!!!!!
Destruct-O-Tron
went on a business trip over the weekend.
Justique and I were at PIX this weekend. It was great! Here are my thoughts about it:
PIX day 1 and
PIX day 2. Apparently, Destruct-O-Tron was there too. We didn't see him. But we saw a bunch of other people!!
Here are some pics from... PIX! *snicker*
RALF's
appetite is wreaking havoc on Mind's Eye's life.
PIX is this weekend!!! Justique and I are gonna be there!!! That means you should be there too!! AHHHH!! I'll have tons of new comics, including six (1-2-3-4-5-6!) Super Haters minicomics.
BUT WAIT!! THERE'S MORE! Justique came home the other night and had a surprise... this drawing of Mind's Eye's mom:
Excellent, right? And she has superpowers too! According to Justique, when Mind's Eye's mom takes off her necklace, people everywhere have sex! FREE LOVE!!! So I guess she's like a sex superhero goddess. RAD!
While Destruct-O-Tron is
busy making comics, RALF continues to be a pain in Mind's Eye ass...
Check out
the first page from my 24-hour Stick Cats comic that I completed last weekend! And get ready for tomorrow... A SPECIAL ARTISTIC SURPRISE FROM JUSTIQUE!!!
Destruct-O-Tron has started
making comics to cover
RALF's food bill... but is it working?
I'm sure you're reading this and thinking, "Pssssh! Destruct-O-Tron's not really gonna be at PIX." Ahhhhh au contraire mes amis! He'll be there, alright... in six new Super Haters minicomics!!!! Justique and I hand-picked some of our favorite 15-strip story arcs, and I printed them up in a super-unique ultra-collectible format! I don't have a photo of them yet (coming later this week!), but I do have
images of the covers. Check 'em out!
And make sure to get your asses to
PIX: Pittsburgh's Indy Comics Expo this weekend from 10 AM to 5 PM both Saturday and Sunday. I'm gonna have a ton of other comics, too. You can find out more about what I'll be offering by listening to
today's Sequential Underground podcast on the AudioShocker.
Destruct-O-Tron has
started making comics to pay for RALF's food intake. Meanwhile, the little alien is still causing problems...
Yesterday, I posted the
unlettered art from Destruct-O-Tron's comic on Tumblr. Check it out!!!
Also from yesterday, here's my
24-Hour Comics Day 2011 recap.
Destruct-O-Tron
needs to pay RALF's food bill, so he's decided to make money by making comics.
Do you like Destruct-O-Tron's art? I HOPE SO! I have a quick little horror story to tell you about it...
I spent Friday night creating the top panel of this comic strip. I drew it digitally, and it came together within a few hours. Justique got home around 10-ish and I still had a few tweaks to go. I was getting tired and I wanted to go hang out with Justique instead of finishing the art. I was getting bleary. Still, I soldiered through it and I finished up around 10:30. I decided to flatten the image and test it out at Super Haters size (764 px @ 72 dpi) just to see how it would look.
Can you guess the rest? (Some of you already know where this is going, but for those who don't I'll name my biggest mistake...) I saved it. And I forgot to change it back to 4500 px @ 300 dpi and save it again. Of course, I didn't realize this until the next morning when I woke up and checked the file. I wanted to cry. My beautiful "no-one-is-ever-gonna-believe-Nick-made-this" art was saved at super low resolution!!! And flattened. So yeah, I lost a lot of work. And it hurt.
I used Illustrator to do an extremely detailed vector scan of the lo-res artwork. So at least I can blow the image up now without nasty blurring... although it'll always be pixelated. Nothing I can do about that. Now that's a true horror story!!
Anyway, a few hours later, I was
at Pittsburgh's Toonseum celebrating
24-Hour Comics Day. And I'm proud to say that I finished my 24-page
Stick Cats comic in 12 hours! I'll be posting a 24HCD 2011 recap later today on my
NickMarino.net blog, and I'll add the link here in the description when it's complete. EDIT:
Here it is!
