After transforming Destruct-O-Tron back into a human,
Sister Hoodoo left with Wet Dream.
Well, that's it! This the conclusion/epilogue to the Work for Hire story arc. What's next, you ask? You're just gonna have to listen to today's brand new Destruct-O-Cast podcast to find out!
This episode is audio commentary for the Work for Hire story arc. Basically, you can read along while I go through each strip and share behind-the-scenes stuff about the story's creation and production. I'll be posting the entire story arc later today on Facebook, and I'll link to it from here once it's up. EDIT:
Here's the entire Work for Hire story arc on Facebook!
On Monday:
NOT Super Haters #400.
Sister Hoodoo finally managed to get Destruct-O-Tron back into
his normal body.
Nothing to say today!! See you tomorrow with a brand new Destruct-O-Cast and the end of Work for Hire.
After transforming Destruct-O-Tron into
his essence, Sister Hoodoo tweaked her spell and gave it another shot.
HEY WOULDJA LOOK AT DAT!!! Destruct-O-Tron is back in his regular body. Took him long enough.
Today, there's
a new episode of A Podcast with Ross and Nick. We're talking about comics. A LOT of comics. Can u dig it?
Mind's Eye couldn't get Destruct-O-Tron back into his original body... but Sister Hoodoo
was confident that she could do it.
Some of you are already familiar with Disgust-O-Tron a.k.a. that ugly fella in panels 1-4. But for those of you who've never seen him before, you can learn more about him
here and
here.
Last week, I got a chance to see an advance screening of Ted. You can hear my thoughts on it in
the latest AudioShocker Podcast. I also tell a funny poop story about my grandma.
See ya tomorrow for more of cute li'l tiny Todd a.k.a. Destruct-O-Toddler!
Destruct-O-Tron
told Sister Hoodoo that he used to be a black man before he was a small orange alien.
Wow. Super Haters #395. I never imagined that I'd be here typing out this sentence when I made Super Haters #1.
Today's the 3rd anniversary of the Super Haters. On
June 25th, 2009, I launched this webcomic on the AudioShocker. It was
very raw and I had
no vision for where it was going. I just knew that I wanted to make fun of superheroes on a regular basis. And swear a lot.
For those of you who've been reading from the start, thx for sticking with me!! It's been a bumpy but ridiculously nasty ride. I hope it's been as kickass for you as it has been for me :D
For those of you who joined along the way, thx for giving the Haters a shot!! I promise there's a lot more craziness in store.
Tomorrow: Find out the thrilling fate of Destruct-O-Tron!! Did Sister Hoodoo manage to turn him back into the orange armored idiot that we know and love? Or is he forever stuck in the body of a tiny lumpy alien??
Mind's Eye and Sister Hoodoo
really hate each other.
D-Tron in da house!!! Did you miss him? I know I did.
Well, I don't have anything non-Super Haters to tell you about today. In fact, I've got nothing to say at all except... SEE YOU NEXT WEEK! Things are gonna get really weird :}
One of
Mind's Eye's rivals -- Sister Hoodoo -- has arrived to safely escort Wet Dream to his new home.
Hmmm... I sense a little bit of tension. What about you?
In other news, there's a
special episode of the Sequential Underground indie comics podcast out today -- Brian John Mitchell, prolific mini-comics creator and past
Super Haters guest, joins me to discuss the aftermath of his successful Kickstarter project. It's an episode packed full of great advice for people interested in running their own Kickstarter campaigns.
Speaking of which... how would you feel if I put on a Super Haters Kickstarter project for a collected edition print run? How much would you pay for a physical tome of the first 400 Super Haters strips? And what kinds of incentives could I offer that would get you really excited to pledge to the project???
BTW, if no one answers those questions then I'll assume that you want me to eat shit and die. And it's okay to say, "Meh. I don't wanna read a print version of the Haters." That's okay with me too :D
Wet Dream wants to leave his partnership with Mind's Eye and Sister Hoodoo has
shown up to make sure it happens!
You can get a closer look at Sister Hoodoo
on deviantART.
On the
latest Sequential Underground podcast, Shawn Atkins and I rant about the changes we'd like to see in the comic book industry. He's got a list of great stuff that he believes would attract new readers. Meanwhile, I just say "fuck new readers!" and advocate creating the bestest and weirdest stories possible.
Also, you may notice a few ads popping up on the Haters blog over the next few days. I'm gonna try to generate a wee bit of cash flow through advertising. If, at any time, the ads begin to hinder your enjoyment of the webcomic or your use of the blog... LET ME KNOW!!! My goal is to integrate advertising in a way that doesn't detract from the content.
When Mind's Eye told Wet Dream that she doesn't like his contract,
he quit.
Say hello to
Sister Hoodoo!! Since her name's not the butt of a future joke, I'm okay with revealing it (though it won't show up in the strip for a few days). You'll be learning more about her as things progress. In the meantime, feel free to see if you can guess her deal!!
Filed under the 'totally unrelated' category, I'm gonna share something today that I don't think I've ever shared on this blog --
a new episode of the AFI 100 Movies Podcast. My buddy Conrad and I are reviewing the films from the American Film Institute's
100 Years... 100 Movies list in reverse order. Today we discuss #27-29. Hope ya dig it!
After
a whole week of Wet Dream saying "that's not in my contract," Mind's Eye decided to
find out what
IS in the goddamn thing.
Annnnndddd we're back. Only a one week break... that's not too bad, right?
Totally unrelated, my buddy
Ed Quillin took a photo of
me trying to bite a giant lemon and sketched me as
Zombie Jesus. THX ED!!!
That's it! See ya tomorrow when you'll find out the answer to
this.
Remember, the
Work for Hire story arc is back starting Monday. And a new character will make her first appearance next week!
Also, today
I blogged about the first pages of original comic book art that I purchased last month. Even though the current storyline pokes fun at Aquaman (
specifically Pt 6), I really do have a lot of affection for the character -- one of the pages I bought is from 1994's Aquaman #2. The other page is from a TMNT issue by
past (and hopefully future!) Super Haters contributor,
Ross Campbell.
Anyhoo, tomorrow I've got an art treat from masta blasta Andrew Kilian and I'll see you on Monday with Work for Hire pt 11 (#390)!!
After getting harassed by Wet Dream for
the past week, Mind's Eye is suspicious of her new partner's contract.
Sorry, no new Destruct-O-Cast today!!!! Maybe next week. However, my buds Dan, Shawn, and Marcel have a
new Sequential Underground podcast for you to check out. Give it a listen!!
And now a smidgen of bad news -- the Super Haters are taking a one week break. As I mentioned a few days ago, I'm traveling right now. And it's hard to give my new comics the proper attention they deserve. So instead of compromising my trip AND the webcomic, I'm going to take off next week.
So Work for Hire will have a one week intermission. But never fear!!! The story will resume on Monday, June 18th. In the meantime, I'll post some teaser images next week. See ya then!!!
Wet Dream is starting to become a real
pain in the ass to work with.
Man, I wish I had a contract where I didn't have to do anything.
Mind's Eye just told Destruct-O-Tron about the
contract she signed when she hired Wet Dream.
Oh, Wet Dream!!! You're so lovable. And by lovable, I mean you're a horrible, horrible bastard.
It looks like Destruct-O-Tron decided not to
kill himself after all.
Not much to say... I'm traveling so the webcomic is going up early. I'll be on Pacific time for the next week, so my posting times might be more erratic than usual. Anyway, that's all I got for now. See ya tomorrow when Wet Dream confronts Mind's Eye about a discrepancy in his pay.
Destruct-O-Tron
fucking hates Mind's Eye's new superhero partner.
WET DREAM!!!! Obviously he's an Aquaman parody. Now don't get me wrong -- I love Aquaman. He's one of my favorite superheroes. In fact, I just bought a page of original art from the landmark mid-90s Aquaman run (I'll be blogging about it soon).
But the fact remains that there's a whole lot to make fun of when it comes to Aquaman. And if you were replaced by him? Daaaamn... I can only imagine how pissed I'd be if that happened to me.
Destruct-O-Tron met Randall, Mind's Eye's new superhero partner, and he's not too happy about it.
No new Destruct-O-Cast today! Sorry folks!! I said my piece about the new Super Haters naming system on
A Podcast with Ross and Nick this week... and that pretty much exhausted everything new I have to say about the Haters for the moment.
In other news, I hope you're following
Super Haters on Facebook... that is, if you like to stay updated through Facebook. Otherwise, fuck it.
Frankly, I think email is the best way to get Super Haters updates. Blog posts are sent directly in your inbox (I know that sounds like a line out of a bad commercial, but it's true). And the email formatting looks pretty damn good, if I may say so myself. If you're interested in trying it out, check out the very top of the sidebar here on the blog to sign up. And BTW, there's no spam -- just one daily Haters email.
Monday: Learn Randall's ridiculous codename!! I promise you'll love it :}
Destruct-O-Tron has just encountered Mind's Eye's
new superhero partner.
After a couple hours of work yesterday, I finished renaming the blog posts to reflect the story arcs instead of the overall number of Super Haters comic strips. Lemme know if you have any feedback -- good and bad are both welcome.
Last night, I went to a book release party at Pittsburgh's
Copacetic Comics for my bud Nate McD's first graphic novel,
Don't Come Back. I don't think he reads Super Haters, but in the off chance that he does... congrats, Nate!!! It was a sweet shindig. And thanks for the
Shuma-Gorath sketch :D
Tomorrow: poop.
If
Destruct-O-Bot isn't Mind's Eye's new partner... then who is?!?!?!
Say hello to the newest Super Haters character --
***CENSORED***!!!
(Sorry folks... ***CENSORED***'s name is a part of the story and I'm not ready to reveal it just yet.)
In other news, some of you may have noticed a difference here on the Haters website. If you did, then I applaud your perceptive abilities. I've decided to eschew my usual "Super Haters #3XX" blog post titles. Instead, I'm switching over to a plot-based system that emphasizes where a specific webcomic sits within the the current story arc.
See, I had a sudden change of heart yesterday regarding comic book and webcomics numbering. While I love the notion of sequential comics with numbers that climb into oblivion, I think that system is actually a detriment to new readers and people who prefer to read comics in chunks. Hopefully my new naming system is easier to digest for Haters newbies, as well as a good change of pace for those of you who prefer to read a week or two worth of Super Haters webcomics at once.
Obviously, the numbering still appears on the comics themselves and in the URLs, just not in the blog post titles or the
archives.
As a side note, if you'd like to listen to me rant about my new-found distaste for endless numbering, check out
today's A Podcast with Ross and Nick.
Mind's Eye just broke the news to Destruct-O-Tron --
she has a new crime fighting partner.
Bait and switch!! BOO-YAH. I guess Destruct-O-Bot won't be hanging around for this story arc after all...
But I'll tell ya what -- I
really struggled with the wording on this strip. Sometimes it works out so easily and other times I second guess every line of dialogue. Today's webcomic was one of those instances where I just couldn't get the wording to work to my satisfaction. I rewrote it over and over. YEESH!!!
In other news, there's
a fresh AudioShocker Podcast out today wherein Justique and I talk to a
very cranky Neal about Battleship, Men in Black III, The Avengers, and
jammers. This episode is for the old school AudioShocker fans out there -- if you enjoy listening to 'Stique and I as we fuck with cranky Neal, I promise this one won't disappoint.
Anyhoo, back to Super Haters. Tomorrow = more fun stuff happens. You don't wanna miss it!!
