Happy April Fools' Day from Mind's Eye and Destruct-O-Tron!
To celebrate this most momentous of holidays, I'm proud to announce that there's a Super Haters digital comic
now available on ComiXology, that megalith near-monopoly of a digital comics storefront.
The $2.99 collection is called
Super Haters: Incredibly Irresponsible and it contains seven remixed and remastered Haters stories featuring the art of
Andrew Kilian,
Brandon Williams, E.D.,
Francisco Gruel,
Kaylie McDougal, Nils-Petter Norlin, and
Shawn Atkins. Plus we've got a cover by
Carrie Howarth!
The comic is formatted for ComiXology's panel-by-panel Guided View Native mode, which gave me the opportunity to chop things up and have some fun with the pacing. I think it creates a whole new rad reading experience for these seven tales and I hope you agree too!
Destruct-O-Tron
took a direct hit from Dr. Perverto's penis cannon.
And that's a wrap!!! So... how did you like it? Did anyone see this ending coming?
When I first asked Nils what type of story he wanted to tell, he said "Super Haters: The Movie." From that concept (and a few other requests by Nils), I worked up the script for his five comics strips and we were off!!! In fact, this story has seen very little change or development along the way. It sorta popped out fully formed. Nils had a couple of things he wanted to tweak in my script, but that was it. I don't think I had a single thing I wanted him to change with the art! I did take the liberty of modifying the dialogue a little as I lettered. But even if a few words changed, the story is still exactly the same.
Thx Nils!!! I really REALLY enjoyed working on your Guest Week and I hope to have you back
soon!
Dr. Perverto
has escaped from prison and it's time for the Super Haters to leap into action!
All week long, I've been posting Nils' unlettered artwork on the
Super Haters Tumblr page. So if you're tired of my letters getting the in the way of your artistic enjoyment, then go check out
#255,
#256,
#257, and the others as I post them (#258 will be going up soon!!!).
Also, I'd like to add that panel three of this strip is my favorite image of the story arc. LOOK HOW BADASS THEY ARE FLYING INTO THE HORIZON!!!
The Super Haters
defeated Dr. Perverto and decided to celebrate in their own special way...
The Super Haters were
ambushed by Dr. Perverto, who decimated a stretch of winding mountain road and everything on it... including Destruct-O-Tron's sexy red convertible!
You might be looking at the credits on this comic strip and wondering to yourself "why is the artist listed first?" There are a few reasons for that. The first answer is that Nils is our guest, and I think that means his name should come first. The second is because Nils told me what kind of story he wanted to tell, including certain plot points, and that makes us co-plotters. The third is because I think artists
should be listed first in comics credits. Not to diminish the contribution of writers, but artists -- specifically pencilers -- have the most labor intensive job in comics assembly. In a perfect world, I think all comics should be credited like Armor Wars II where John Romita, Jr.'s name sat above John Byrne. But that's just me.
Forget everything you know about the Super Haters! It's time to enter the world of
Nils-Petter Norlin Guest Week...
FINALLY!!! After a week-long delay and a bunch of cryptic teasers, the show has begun. Sorry I'm posting this strip a little bit late -- I'm a very particular letterer, and I tend to tweak things unnecessarily until I either A) temporarily convince myself things look okay, or B) simply can't find the mental strength to letter anymore. Today was a case of A, which is a good thing because I have four more strips to go!
Anyway, if you're not familiar with
Nils, lemme fill you in real quick -- he's the artist of the kickass
Yamagato webcomic (currently on a mini-hiatus), as well as my collaborator on an upcoming super-awesome super-secret supervillain comic!!!
THIS IS IT! The final
Nils-Petter Norlin Guest Week teaser. DAS BOOT!!!!
Now git yer sorry ass back here to watch the magnificence of the Nils-Petter Norlin mayhem in mega-motion on Monday!
This
Nils-Petter Norlin Guest Week teaser features the intense gaze of a character who will remain nameless!
Another
Nils-Petter Norlin Guest Week teaser. PUSH THE BUTTON!!!
As I mentioned
yesterday, I have to push
Nils-Petter Norlin Guest Week back to get caught up while I handle some personal stuff.
But that doesn't mean the art has to stop! In place of your regular Monday-Friday Super Haters strips, I'll be posting teasers for next week's over-sized story arc.
Can you guess what you're looking at today? I'M NOT TELLING! But (hehe) I think it's pretty easy to figure it out.
